Following the 0-0 draw between the White Knights and Stellies, videos began circulating on social media showing fans of the Egyptian giants involved in a scuffle in the stands.
The incident came a day after supporters of Mamelodi Sundowns and Espérance Sportive de Tunis were involved in violent clashes of their own.
It was alleged that Zamalek fans travelling from Egypt instigated the altercation due to a stance taken by the club’s South African-based supporters. However, according to Kooora, African football’s governing body is demanding a letter from the five-time CAF Champions League winners clarifying what transpired at the DHL Stadium.
The same report claims that in the letter sent, CAF stressed the importance of adhering to regulatory procedures during continental competitions. It is also understood that the Cairo-based club have been given a week to file a report explaining the incident.
