The story
Muhsin Ertuğral shared heartfelt words for AmaZulu coach and former player Arthur Zwane.
The Turkish-born mentor coached Zwane during his two spells at Kaizer Chiefs in the 1999/2000 season and again from 2007 to 2009.
After recently parting ways with Cape Town City following a brief three-month tenure, Ertuğral paid a special tribute to Zwane, taking to Instagram to express his admiration for the Chiefs legend.
"I've worked with many talented players, over all those years in my coaching career, but Arthur Zwane was special. Not only incredibly gifted, but one of the most dedicated professionals I’ve ever coached," wrote Ertuğral on his Instagram post dedicated to Zwane.
The veteran coach attached a picture of an excerpt from Arthur Zwane's interview with Soccer Laduma and wrote further,
"A mix of natural talent and relentless hunger, I can safely say it's rare. I still remember how, after team sessions, Arthur would leave, but not to go home, but to train on the track with Adrie de Jong, my sprint and coordination coach at that time, one of South Africa’s top athletes.
"No fanfare like most will do, just pure commitment. That’s when I knew and realized he was wired differently," shared the 65-year-old.
The former Pirates, Ajax Cape Town (Cape Town Spurs), Maritzburg United (Durban City), and Golden Arrows coach praised Zwane's character and recounted how he tried to lure the former midfielder to assist him at Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Muhsin went on to mention the amazing traits Zwane possessed as a player and how his drive categorised him among the local game’s greatest players.
"Great players don't want to be sugarcoated. They want honesty. They want a challenge they want a clear vision. They carry a drive within them, and Arthur had that fire every single day," Muhsin.
Mangethe's Usuthu side currently find themselves in seventh place in the Betway Premiership table, with his side showing huge promise of not only making the top eight but potentially finishing in one of the CAF Confed spots.
Ertugral, who lost 2-0 to Zwane's Usuthu in March while at Cape Town City, believes the Durban-based club have backed the right man by appointing Mangethe and that he'll go on to translate his success as a player to coaching.
"He wasn't just a player. A thinker. A humble giant of the game for me. I know, as, knowing my name, Arthur Zwane will become one of South Africa's most successful coaches. He's already leading with the same values he played discipline, humility, and heart!" he said.
"AmaZulu have made a brilliant choice and I believe he will guide them to something special," added Muhsin.
