Saudi club Al Ettifaq have reportedly become disillusioned with the Englishman as their head coach.
Despite winning four out of their first five matches of the 2024/25 season in all competitions, the Liverpool native has failed to win any of their proceeding six matches since, even being knocked out of the Saudi King's Cup at the hands of second-division side Al-Jabalain.
It is said that the chiefs of the Knight of Ad Dahna are poised to fire Gerrard during the upcoming international break, giving them enough time to find a replacement.
One of the prime candidates to succeed the former Aston Villa manager is Zamalek's Jose Gomes.
The Portuguese tactician is no stranger to Saudi Arabian football, having taken charge of Al Taawoun on three different occasions, and he has also been the head coach of Al Ahli, winning the 2016/17 Saudi Super Cup with the latter.
According to Asharq Al-Awsat, however, he is not the only Portuguese in contention to take charge of the Dammam-based side, as Pedro Emanuel is also said to be in the running. Emanuel has previously been head coach of Saudi Pro League sides Al Nassr and Al-Khaleej.

Should Al Ettifaq decide to appoint Gomes, it would be a massive blow to the White Knights given the recent success he has led them to.
The 54-year-old has won the CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Super Cup during the 10 months he has overseen the North African giants.
