Al Hilal are considering the possibility of terminating the Brazilian's contract in January.
This comes after the club confirmed that Neymar, who had only just returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, is injured again.
The 32-year-old is expected to be out for four to six weeks with a torn hamstring this time around, leaving the Saudi champions frustrated.
The respected publication UOL reports that Al Hilal are hoping to find "an amicable resolution" following the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain winger's latest setback.
Brazilian club Santos, where Neymar began his career before moving to Spain in 2013, are said to be eager to bring him back to the place where it all started.
Neymar enjoyed significant success in Brazil, winning six trophies with Santos and famously claiming the 2011 Puskás Award for a brilliant solo effort that earned him worldwide recognition.
Astonishingly, despite spending a decade in Europe before moving to the Saudi Pro League, Neymar played more matches for Santos than he did for Barcelona and PSG.
