Paris Saint-Germain's president has accused Barcelona of "unfair" business amid rumours Lionel Messi could make a stunning return to the Catalan giants at the end of the season.
Barca Chief: A Deal For Messi Is Possible
Following the widely known financial issues the Blaugrana headed into the previous transfer window with, many were surprised at the spending spree the LaLiga side went on as they spent big money on the likes of Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde.
According to Marca, Joan Laporta and his board sanctioned the sales of stakes in their domestic television rights and in Barca Studios in order to raise funds for the new arrivals, as well as to have them registered with LaLiga.
The club's solutions were heavily criticised around Europe, with PSG's president, who has been a member of UEFA's executive committee since 2019, believing the means Barcelona used to do business in the latest window warrants an investigation.
"Is this fair? No, it's not fair... Is it legal? I'm not sure," he told Politico.
"If they allow them, others will do the same. UEFA, of course, have their own [financial] regulations. For sure, they're going to look at everything."
Al-Khelaifi's remarks come amid intensifying rumours that the Spanish side are hopeful of re-signing Messi for the 2023/24 campaign after it was claimed the Argentine does not want to renew his stay in Paris.
With less than a year remaining on his contract, it is believed that Messi, 35, will explore his options after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
