One of Barcelona's most important board members has made a big admission about Lionel Messi's potential return to the Catalan club.
Messi 'Has A Dig' At Real's 2021/22 UCL Victory
This week, suggestions of the Argentine heading back to the Camp Nou intensified when Sport journalist Marc Marba claimed the 35-year-old has decided he will leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season.
With less than a year remaining on his contract, Messi will reportedly only entertain talks over his future after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and the insinuation is that he already knows he will not renew his deal in France.
Reports in Spain say Barcelona are interested in reuniting with their former No. 10, with both head coach Xavi Hernandez and president Joan Laporta said to be open to the idea of his return for the 2022/23 campaign.
While Laporta has addressed the rumour previously, the club's economic vice-president Eduard Romeu has now acknowledged that a deal could be struck should it suit the technical team's plans.
"As it would be on a free, so surely it something that we can do," he said, according to football journalist Reshad Rahman.
"But it'd be a technical decision, anyways.
"There is salary margin, we made an effort this summer on salaries."
Messi enjoyed a fruitful international break with Argentina, having struck four times in their two friendlies against Honduras and Jamaica, taking his tally for his country to 90 goals.
