Following Real Madrid's UEFA Champions League triumph last season, Lionel Messi has seemingly taunted Los Blancos, stating that they may have not been the best team in the tournament despite winning the competition.
Messi 'To Leave PSG', Will Only Return To Barca On One Condition
The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has not won the Champions League in seven years now, and is eager to rectify that this year by helping Paris Saint-Germain capture the first UCL trophy in their history.
European glory has remained elusive for PSG, who are now into the 11th year of their Qatari-backed ownership.
Les Parisiens and Messi failed in their quest to win the competition last season when they were defeated by Real in the first knockout round courtesy of Karim Benzema's hat-trick in the second leg.
Los Blancos went on to defeat then-reigning champions Chelsea in the quarter-finals and Manchester City in the semis, before beating Liverpool in the final to capture their 14th European cup.
Disappointed by last season's early exit, Messi wants to recapture the trophy that has evaded him for a while now, but has insisted that luck has a big part to play in winning European football's most prestigious club tournament.
Seemingly taking aim at Real, the Argentine icon said recently that it is not always the best team that wins the Champions League.
"Last year was difficult for me, it was hard after a very big change (joining from Barcelona), after being in the same place for so long," Messi told Mexican TV station TUDN.
"The aim [for this season] is clear to everyone. PSG have been eager for a long time to win the Champions League.
"The elimination last season was very hard because of how it happened because we played two great games against Real Madrid and the tie was lost in small details.
"This is not a typical year, because the World Cup is in between the games, but the main objective of PSG, like every year, is to be able to compete for the Champions League.

"It is a very difficult competition to win because it is not always won by the best team, it is always decided by small details, any mistake leaves you out of a tie, but we are preparing ourselves for when those hard moments come, to be up to the task."
