Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has reflected on the underwhelming 2022/23 season, mentioning what held his team back during the course of the campaign.
Chiefs finished yet another season trophy-less and missed out of CAF competitions by finishing fifth in the DStv Premiership with an unwanted record of 12 defeats.
Zwane admitted that injuries in was the "enemy of progress" in their efforts, stating that he's never seen so many injuries in one season.
Here's how the readers reacted to the "Zwane Reveals 'Enemy of Progress' At Chiefs" story:
"You are clueless sir! All the teams were affected by injuries, but they never complain about that. I would understand if he blamed his inexperience and admit that he was learning. You underestimated Pirates then they surprised you which left you and your players traumatized for the rest of your games.
"Just admit bro, that you still have a long way to go before you consider yourself as a coach," says D Papaz.
"As a coach, you must have players that you are credited for helping to improve. With Arthur it was the opposite. Players that joined Chiefs, or he found in the team, in good form, regressed immensely.
"Caleb, for example, was good when he joined Chiefs. Yes, he would miss a few opportunities, but he was always in the right place, at the right time. He was part of build-ups. That is not Caleb that we saw towards the end of last season.
"Saile, Dolly, Nkosi, Ngcobo, and Kwinika. All of these reflect badly on the coach. As a coach you are there to help players to be better, not to become average," says siyaz.
"Ja look, Kaizer Chiefs needs quality players and a coach," says Saavedra.
"I think coach Zwane deserves another chance," says msiphos.
"Only small teams complain about injuries. Downs had Shalulile out for some time, but they never complained. Pirates had Maela, Lorch, Sibisi, Xoki, Monyane, Shandu, and Ndah injured at some point but went on to win two cups," says HelsTheMan.
"Injuries sometimes are caused by the wrong gymnasium tactics, indulging in liquor, players using intelezi (muthi) against each other, dodging training sessions, becoming a womanizer etc. Some players buy expensive cars to attract tyranny of fashion. Some players need to change their lifestyles," says Soccer Fanatic.
"So, Chiefs was the ONLY team out of 16 affected by injuries? Is he saying that ALL the other teams did not have injured players the whole season?
"NO, NO, AND NO, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH ZWANE, why can't he just accept that he is not a fully qualified to be the head coach?
"If they keep him as the head coach this coming season, he will lose more than 15 games and end up in position around 10 or 12. MARK MY WORDS," says peter95157.
"Brace yourselves for next excuses, likely to be....inexperienced players, new methods, certain pitches not suitable for our style, new players are adapting, new Coach tactics, Chiefs badge too heavy to wear etc." says makhause(2).

Although talks are said to be at an advanced stage between Kaizer Chiefs and Young Africans (Yanga) head coach Nasreddine Nabi, they have since come to a halt according to Soccer Laduma's Siya Crew.
Talks of Nabi taking over the reins from Zwane at Amakhosi were in full swing last week, the Tunisian mentor did his part by rejecting an improved off from Yanga, while Chiefs appeared to have been dead set on moving on from Zwane.
The Siya Crew were recently informed by its insiders that talks had reached a standstill due to Chiefs' indecision regarding Zwane.
Here's how the readers reacted to the "Why Talks Have Stalled Between Chiefs And Nabi" story:
"The intern wants to remain a technical member and be paid in full," says Touch420.
"Zwane has been given a chance and he failed, why do we still need him? I really don't understand the decision making at Kaizer Chiefs," says The godfather.
"Chiefs is not prepared to invest their money in bringing the glory days back. Opposite to what Sundowns is doing," says user584597.
"Zwane must go back to MDC. He has worked under two coaches and seemed to have underground influence on the players and how they played under those coaches. He had his chance to lead, and it came to nothing. So, he must just go," says Legend CRM083.
"If Nabi don't want to work with Zwane, he must go somewhere else because at the end of the season, he will say it was a new team with new technical team, so they were still learning. We don't need learning we need to hit the ground running," says Mami@georgedale.
"Chiefs is doing something they will regret later. How can you force someone to work with someone he doesn't want? They are throwing Arthur under the bus here.
"If they really want the coach, they will agree to his demands and the previous team to work with development with the same contract. Is Zwane going to be their Shepherd? This management is so stubborn. I'm still wishing the OIL RICH GURU'S FROM THE EAST can rescue us and buy this team," says generalmj.
"I think it will be too costly to hire a coach plus three members of his crew. If a pay cut is anything the coach will agree upon, it is fine. Zwane is not supposed to be fired. Chiefs are on their track by keeping Zwane to work with experienced coaches so as to gain experience for the future.
"There is no guarantee that this coach can last in South Africa, especially at Chiefs. What if things don't get right for him? Obviously he will dump them just like he did to his previous club," says Soccer Fanatic.
