Earlier this month, Soccer Laduma reported that SuperSport United defender Siyabonga Nhlapo and the club were in talks about the player's future, as his contract is reportedly coming to an end in June this year.
Now, Siya sources have indicated that the club has probably offered the 34-year-old defender another one year at the club, with the contract expected to end in June 2024.

A source close to the club told the Siya crew that talks were close, just before the final DStv Premiership game of the season against Sekhukhune United, which SuperSport United lost 1-0.
"The talks have been going on for almost two months now and finally the club has offered Siya (Nhlapo) a one-year contract. The way it is structured, it's not like this is the final one. If both parties feel he could still continue after next season then they would extend for another year. It's more or less like a performance-based contract," the source said.
"However, the good thing for the player is that when his days to retire come, the team will incorporate him into their system whether with the juniors or where management will find it fitting for him. But, for now it's a one year playing contract that they have offered the player," the source said.
The former Bidvest Wits defender, Nhlapo joined Matsatsantsa a Pitori in 2017 for an initial three-year deal which ran until 2020. Then he renewed that contract for another three years until 2023.
He had played for the now defunct Wits where he was coached by SuperSport's current coach, Gavin Hunt. This season Nhlapo has featured in 20 leagues games and one Nedbank Cup game. Efforts to get a comment from CEO Stan Matthews, on the player's contract, proved futile as he didn't answer his phone.
