Pirates Offer Keeper Three-Year Deal?

Pirates Offer Keeper Three-Year Deal?

Orlando Pirates are believed to have offered their goalkeeper a new three-year contract as his current deal is set to expire in June 2025, according to insiders privy to information.

Insiders at the club have indicated that while the deal is not yet finalised, things are looking promising for the former Chippa United shot-stopper to extend his stay at the club.

A source close to the situation added that the club views Chaine, who is now also a Bafana Bafana keeper, as a crucial part of their squad and do not want to lose him anytime soon.

"It's an on going process. The club has offered the player a new three-year deal and there are ongoing talks between all the involved parties. For now we can say it's not a done deal yet but things look promising as both parties are happy with what's on the table so far and it's just a matter of time before everything is sorted out concerning the new deal," the Siya source stated.

A second Siya source discussed the club's urgency in finalising a contract before Chaine becomes a free agent next year.

"The club are clear about the future of Sipho (Chaine) though the contract is only expiring in June next year. They want to finalise everything before he enters the last six months of his contract as he can easily become a free agent. He is one of the senior players in the team and they want him to be the backbone of the team hence the offer of three years on the table as we speak. That's to keep him longer until around June 2028," the second source stated.

The 27-year-old Bucs goalkeeper joined Pirates in 2022 and signed an initial three-year contract set to expire in June 2025. In his two seasons at Pirates, he began to settle into the side gradually, but last season he started to prove his higher value for the team despite injury setbacks.

This season, Chaine has already played in all the games Pirates have participated in, whether in the league, the MTN8, or the Caf Champions League, and earned his first South Africa cap in a 3-2 win over South Sudan last month.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment on the matter, but there was no response at the time of publishing this report.

Pirates' decision to offer Chaine a new contract underscores their commitment to retaining key players and ensuring squad stability. As negotiations continue, the club's proactive approach aims to secure Chaine's services well before his current contract expires, reflecting his importance to the team's future plans.
