Kaizer Chiefs are believed to have reignited their interest in South African striker Lebo Mothiba, the Siya crew understands.
Sources within Chiefs, known for providing reliable information, have indicated that Amakhosi are believed to be targeting Mothiba for the January transfer window.
Despite Mothiba himself suggesting his previous interactions with the club were solely about facilitating player moves to Europe, and networking for agency relationships, new insights have emerged since then, discussing Amakhosi's intentions for the striker.
Talks initially stalled because Mothiba was recovering from an injury, but Chiefs are understood to be eager to bring him home, now that he is a free agent.

"The interest was there from the start when the club started looking for a striker. The problem that time was that Lebo (Mothiba) wanted to first explore his chances in Europe as there were some (opportunities) promised. But now that he is still a free agent Chiefs have re-opened the negotiations. They are believed to be on the right track and they are going well, so that things could work out positively as the coach is looking for an experienced goal poacher who can help the team. So that's why the group has reignited the interest and the talks with Lebo," the Siya source stated.
A second insider noted that Chiefs are not limited to signing a single striker; they could acquire one or two depending on market conditions in the January window.
"It's not about one or two strikers. No. It's about finding the solution to the scoring problem that the club has at the moment. So, it could be one or two strikers as long as it's what the coach wants. So, as they are looking at all the other strikers they have also re-opened their interest in Lebo (Mothiba). There is nothing wrong there as long as it will help the team," the second insider stated.
A third Siya source highlighted the financial advantage of signing Mothiba since he is a free agent.

"You know as a free agent it favours the club to sign him as they will be saving some money on transfer fees. That would give them the chance to sign another striker or player with the money they would have saved on Mothiba. That's the other reason they are renegotiating with him. So, for him they can conclude the deal anytime because he is a free agent," the third source stated.
In addition to Mothiba, Chiefs are interested in DRC striker Fiston Mayele of Pyramids FC in Egypt, Kenyan striker Michael Olunga based in Qatar, and Golden Arrows' Lungelo Nguse. The club is also working on promoting youth talent Naledi Hlongwane from their DDC side. Attempts to contact Chiefs for comment were unsuccessful at the time of preparing this story.
