Chiefs To Look At Mthethwa Instead of Ngoma?

Chiefs To Look At Mthethwa Instead of Ngoma?

Due to the reported challenges in potentially moving in for DR Congo midfielder Fabrice Ngoma, Siya sources have indicated how Kaizer Chiefs could be interested in a different option.

This time Amakhosi could be looking at Stellenbosch FC for a solution. As previously reported by the Siya crew and then again in the Soccer Laduma newspaper in October 2022, Chiefs were among the teams reportedly interested in former Black Leopards player Sibongiseni Mthethwa.

Then, according to speculation, Amakhosi diverted their attention to Ngoma, who now, may not be available once again.

Siya sources close to Amakhosi have indicated that the club could now be discussing the situation with both Stellies and the player himself to potentially reignite interest in Mthethwa.

"As it stands, now Stellenbosch won't have a very big problem selling Mthethwa because they know his contract is coming to an end in June 2024 so this is their chance of making some money out of the deal," said the Siya source.

"Because in the next window in January, he could be free to sign a pre-contract with a team of his choice and they don't want to risk that. At the same time Chiefs want the player.

"That's why the talks are on going," the source concluded.

The other Siya source indicated that Chiefs are supposedly without a top defensive midfielder so they could fight to sign Mthethwa.

"Since Njabulo Blom left, the team has struggled in that area. They tried Samkelo Zwane and Siyethemba Sithebe but it really didn't work out (with either of them)," said the Siya source.

"So, that is the other reason they really want Mthethwa. You know, that Phathutshedzo (Nange) and Cole (Alexander) are also leaving and they don't have other defensive midfielders at the moment.

"That's why they really need Sibongiseni (Mthethwa). They are talking to Stellenbosch and the talks are at an advanced stage. If they continue like this then a deal could be agreed soon.

"And their position is that if they can't get Ngoma then this has to happen," the source added.
