The future of South African coach Rulani Mokwena hangs in the balance at Wydad Athletic.
According to Moroccan outlet Lesiteinfo, Wydad president Hicham Ait Mena is actively seeking a compromise to end the contract that binds Mokwena to the club.
Soccer Laduma previously noted that Mokwena’s departure would only be set in motion if he fails to lead the team to CAF Champions League qualification—a target that still appears achievable with five matches remaining, as his side currently sits in third place, just two points behind AS FAR.

The reports indicate that a meeting is expected shortly to definitively resolve Mokwena’s future.
The consensus appears to be that the decision to part ways has been agreed upon, with the primary issue now revolving around the method of terminating his contract. It is alleged that Ait Mena is keen to minimize financial damage, given that Mokwena’s contract is substantial, reportedly including a hefty monthly salary.
In an effort to reduce the cost burden on the club, Ait Mena is reportedly attempting to persuade Mokwena to accept a settlement equivalent to just two months of salary, thereby terminating the contract amicably, rather than paying out the full contractual amount stipulated until 2027.
The site further states that Ait Mena is exploring a legal loophole that could release Wydad from the remaining financial obligations to the coach. Notably, this free departure arrangement is being tied to the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, rather than any issues arising from the elimination from the Throne Cup.
