Davids’ Simba SC completed a remarkable continental comeback against Al Masry earlier this week in their second-leg quarter-final, overturning a 2-0 deficit by winning 2-0 themselves, before triumphing 6-1 in the penalty shootout.
It is the first time the Reds of Msimbazi have reached the final four of the Confederation Cup, and here their South African head coach will come up against a familiar foe in Stellies. However, despite making history with the Dar es Salaam outfit, Davids has bigger ambitions—he wants his side to become one of the most formidable clubs on the continent and is targeting Champions League supremacy.
“We’re happy to be in the semi-finals, but we’re not done yet,” he said, as per The Guardian.
“We’re building something. The goal is not just to reach the semi-final, we want to be the best club in Africa. We’re already identifying key signings for next season. The CAF Champions League is also in our sights.”
Before they can set their sights on Africa’s premier club competition, Simba SC must first overcome Steve Barker’s side—a team Davids has faced, and beaten, before.
