Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has now been linked with a contract worth €378 million (R6.8 billion) in Saudi Arabia.
Ronaldo 'Stuns' Al Nassr Teammates In Training
According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Al Hilal are exploring a future deal for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner to counter Al Nassr's signing of Ronaldo.
Al Hilal had previously been tipped to move for the former Real Madrid forward but could not land his signature due to a transfer ban, which was handed to them after they extended a player's contract when he already had an agreement to join Al Nassr.
The feeling is that Al Nassr's move for Ronaldo was a way for the club to get one over their rivals, but that appears to have inspired a different course of action from Al Hilal.
Messi, 35, committed to becoming an ambassador for Saudi Arabia last year to help promote the Middle Eastern country's bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
It is thought that the Gulf state believes it would significantly strengthen Saudi Arabian football by having both Ronaldo and Messi playing in the Saudi Pro League, although this could depend on Al Hilal's transfer ban.
