Report: Why PSG Won't Honour Messi's World Cup Win At Stadium
Ahead of the tournament in the Middle East, the 35-year-old said on record that he believed the Qatar edition would be his last.
Messi, who contributed to 10 goals in his seven matches in the latest edition of the competition, went on to win the World Cup after a penalty shootout victory over France in the final, saying later that he will continue on the international stage for the time being.
Doubts, however, remain as to whether or not the Paris Saint-Germain forward could turn out for Argentina in the World Cup in 2026 even if he wanted to, but Scaloni believes he can.
"I think Messi can get to the next World Cup," he told Radio Calvia.
"It will depend a lot on what he wants, on whether he feels good.
"The doors will always be open. But he is happy on the pitch and it would be very nice for us."
Messi has scored 98 goals for the Albiceleste since 2005, while he has also assisted a further 55 strikes in 172 appearances across all platforms for his national team.
