Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly decided against honouring Lionel Messi's 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night – here is why.
According to French publication Le Parisien, the Ligue 1 champions will not celebrate the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's triumph from last month upon his return to the team.
PSG will host Angers at home on Wednesday night, with Messi having been named in the squad for the first time since he helped inspire Argentina to glory in the Middle East after a penalty shootout win over France in the final.
It is said the club feels that the guard of honour given to the 35-year-old when he returned to training was sufficient, while he was also handed an engraved trophy by sporting director Luis Campos.

The French giants also reportedly believe too much time – three weeks – has passed for a celebration at the Parc des Princes to be necessary.

Le Parisien report further that tributes for ex-PSG player Modeste M'Bami and former club podiatrist Gilles Watelle, both of whom recently passed away, could take place.
