The Red Devils are set to appoint Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, according to The Athletic.
The 39-year-old, who emerged as United's top candidate following the dismissal of Ten Hag on Monday, is expected to take charge of the club during the upcoming international break.
It is claimed the 20-time English champions will pay Sporting €11 million (R211.8 million) to land Amorim's signature.
During negotiations, the Portuguese champions made it clear they wanted the two-time Primeira Liga winner to oversee the team's games against Manchester City and Braga.
This means Amorim's first game in England is likely to be when United travel to Ipswich Town for a Premier League encounter on 24 November.
Members of his current staff in Portugal are set to join Amorim at Old Trafford, with Ruud van Nistelrooy's future still to be clarified.
The Dutchman, serving as United's interim manager, will remain in charge against Chelsea, PAOK and Leicester City.
