Reports suggest that Manchester United have launched a bid to make one of Croatia's stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup the most expensive defender of all time.
Messi Set To Sign PSG Extension?
According to Foot Mercato, the Red Devils are willing to spend big in order to secure Josko Gvardiol's services, with the record Premier League champions said to have bid €90 million (R1.6 billion) for the Croatia star.
A big part of the eastern European nation's game plan throughout the tournament was premised on a strong defence, and with Gvardiol having been a crucial part of that, his performances in Qatar could earn him a potentially history-making move.
However, getting his signature will not be easy, with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester City also understood to be keen to buy the RB Leipzig man.
The Blues are long-term admirers of the Zagreb native and tried to sign him in the off-season, but the centre-back decided to sign a contract extension with the German outfit instead.
United's crosstown rivals City, as per the same report, are the team offering the most money for his services, said to be a €100 million (R1.8 billion) bid, but it remains to be seen if Leipzig want to cash in on their star centre-back just yet.
Bayern Munich are also said to be in the race for the 20-year-old, with the Bundesliga club set to hold talks with his representatives.
