In the early hours of Monday morning, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the France international is ready to join the Ligue 1 champions.
The news comes as a surprise after Blaugrana head coach Xavi Hernandez recently stated the winger is happy in Spain and has shown no signs of wanting to leave.
PSG are believed to have taken the first steps to meet his €50 million (R971 million) release clause, which was set to expire before the close of the current window.
Dembele is now said to have given the French side the "green light" amid claims the club has reached an agreement with his representatives.
A "formal letter" has been sent from the Paris-based giants to Barcelona, with the LALIGA champions' response expected in the coming hours.
