This week, former Arsenal academy striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was arrested and later charged for allegedly trying to smuggle cannabis into the UK.

The 33-year-old, who made five senior appearances for the Gunners under Arsene Wenger, reportedly appeared in court on Thursday.

He, along with two women, were arrested and the player has since had his contract in Scotland terminated with immediate effect.

Greenock Morton, a Scottish Championship club, confirmed the news following Emmanuel-Thomas' detainment.

The former England youth player is believed to be facing strong punishment after two bags containing 60kg of cannabis, considered class B drugs, worth £600 000 (R13.8 million) were seized at Stansted Airport in London.
