The 37-year-old goalkeeper was handed a 90-day suspension after a video surfaced showing him receiving match-fixing instructions.
McCarthy opened up on the allegations levelled against the shot-stopper and said he was glad his paths never crossed with Matasi, Nation Africa reported.
"There is no place for people like that in our sport and I am glad I never crossed paths with this player and he never got to play for me as well, so good luck to him," the Harambee Stars coach was quoted as saying.
“For me, I have no sympathy, whatever punishment comes, and I hope the authorities are going after the people that got this player to do that to begin with because we do not need these kinds of people in our sport…I am just glad I wasn’t the coach who played this goalkeeper."
The former Cape Town City boss revealed he has no sympathy for Matasi's actions, despite recent reports that the player's suspension has been lifted.
According to Pulse Sports, Matasi's suspension was lifted by the Kakamega High Court after he had filed a petition, with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) given 30 days to respond to the petition.
Following the High Court's decision, Homeboyz chairperson Cleophas Shimanyula said the club has to allow Matasi back into the team but the final call to play him lies with head coach Francis Baraza.
The chairperson criticised the national footballing body for punishing Matasi before finding sufficient evidence against him.
"I knew FKF didn't have enough evidence and that is why the court has made the decision to overturn their sanctions and further ordered those with evidence of Matasi fixing matches to produce them in the same court," he said.

Matasi will be eligible to play in Homeboyz's FKF Cup Round of 16 game against Shabana FC on Saturday 12 April.
