Zamalek Coach: We Are Focused On Ahly, Not Stellies

A Zamalek coach has revealed that they are currently not worried about facing Stellenbosch in the Confederation Cup.

On Thursday afternoon, clubs from across the African continent found out their fate regarding their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Champions League. The first draw was for the former, where Stellies were poised to make their knockout stage debut in the competition in their inaugural involvement in the tournament.

The Western Cape-based outfit suffered a comprehensive defeat during their final group stage match in the Confederation Cup, losing 5-0 to RS Berkane, and the tests on the continental stage will not get any easier for them as they are now poised to face the reigning tournament champions, Zamalek.

The White Knights defeated Berkane in last season's final and will undoubtedly be looking to retain their title. However, before they face the club from the South African Winelands, the five-time African champions have a crucial league game against bitter rivals Al Ahly on Saturday.

The two sides are second and third, respectively, in the Egyptian Premier League, and Jose Peseiro's charges will be looking to claw their way back into title contention with a victory over the Red Devils

Zamalek assistant manager Ayman Abdelaziz has revealed that this is where their focus currently lies, and not on their looming continental clash against Steve Barker's men.

"Zamalek is a champion team and the title holder, and everyone is currently focusing on the upcoming summit match against Al-Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League," Abdelaziz told members of the media, as per El Watan Sports.

"The players and the technical staff did not care much about the Confederation Cup draw. Their goal was only to know the competing team, in light of the state of focus from everyone in preparation for the summit match."
