The Kagiso native seems to enjoy a glowing reputation in Egypt. Mosimane ended an seven-year wait for the Club of the Century for continental silverware when he won the 2019/20 CAF Champions League.
He would go on to win it again the following season, becoming only the second manager in the club's illustrious history at the time to win the competition in consecutive years. During the 2021/22 campaign, however, Ahly and the former Bafana Bafana head coach decided to mutually part ways.
This paved the way for Marcel Koller to make his way to Cairo in September 2022 and, like Mosimane, the Swiss tactician has also enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at the club.
The Zurich native's success with Ahly has led to comparisons with his South African predecessor, and when Johnson was asked to compare the two, he told Masrawy: "Every coach has his own period. Koller is performing well at the moment, and Mosimane has done a great job during his period with the team."
Like the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss, Koller has won Africa's premier club competition in back-to-back seasons, but this season he has the opportunity to outdo Mosimane by winning the tournament three times in a row.
