Nengomasha: Fit Chiefs Can Compete For PSL Title Next Season

In an interview with Soccer Laduma, former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Tinashe Nengomasha praised the team's conditioning too. Now a team manager for Zimbabwe Premier League side Ngezi Platinum, Nengomasha observed that the players' performances demonstrate their fitness, allowing them to play three games in six days without significant changes to the line-up.

Nengomasha expressed confidence that the players' current fitness levels could enable the club to compete for the league title in the coming seasons.

"I have had the chance to watch the team play and I can tell you that they look fit. The way they play it's a team that is well maintained in terms of fitness and that's very important in modern football. If you have to play three games in six days and you don't change the team that much then it means the fitness level is at another level. I think they are doing very well in that department compared to the past few seasons and their fitness will play a very important part in the results at the end of the season to avoid fatigue. So, yes, I think they are better than most of the past three or four seasons," Nengomasha told Soccer Laduma.

He added that the team could contend for silverware, including the PSL title, if they maintain the current squad for the next two to three seasons.

"The squad that we have now is capable of competing and achieving something. It could not be this season but from next season they will fight for silverware as well as the league title. If they can keep this squad and just add two or three players in important positions next season they are looking really good to compete. And that kind of fitness is vital in such a team," Nengomasha concluded.

Amakhosi are currently sixth in the Betway Premiership, with 25 points from 17 games, trailing Mamelodi Sundowns by 17 points. Their next league game is against SuperSport United on February 18. This weekend, they host Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup last 16 on Saturday at FNB Stadium, with kickoff at 18:00.
