Portuguese club Gil Vicente are believed to have expressed interest in signing a SuperSport United midfielder, the Siya crew has been informed.

According to reliable insiders, Manelisi Mazibuko, who signed his first professional contract in August 2024, could soon be joining compatriot 'Yaya' Sithole at the Portuguese outfit.

Gil Vicente's scouts were in South Africa for the 'No Limits Atlas Showcase,' held from December 6-8, 2024, at Balfour Park, where they were impressed by the young midfielder's talent and potential to thrive in Portugal.

"The Portuguese scouts were in the country and they watched many games and many players but Manelisi Mazibuko caught their attention and they really want him in Portugal as soon as possible. For now they don't need him on trials. It's the scouts. So they know what the team wants and they know what kind of players suit their system and style of play and Manelisi suits that bill hence they want him," the Siya source stated.

A second insider noted that, like Sithole's journey, Mazibuko might initially play for the Under-18s or the Under-21 team.

"Since he is still young and hasn't been used to the European football if he can't immediately fit into the first team he will be playing for the Under-18s and Under-21s until they can see he is ready but for them to scout him out of so many players that means they believe that he is ready to play in Europe and it's good for the youngster's growth," the second source observed.

Attempts to reach SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews for comment were unsuccessful at the time of preparing this story.

The potential move to Gil Vicente could present an exciting opportunity for Mazibuko to expand his experience and skills in European football. As the young midfielder prepares for this possible transition, it marks a significant step in his burgeoning career and underscores the promising future for South African talent in Europe.
