During the 2022/23 season, the Witbank native was undoubtedly the Red Devils' best performer as he helped them taste success both domestically and on the continent.
The latter triumph largely led to him being crowned the 2023 CAF Interclub Men's Player of the Year, but in the recently concluded 2023/24 season, the Bafana Bafana star seemingly lost his prominence within Marcel Koller's side.
It is understood the relationship between Tau and his Swiss manager has been strained over the course of the campaign due to the 30-year-old's insistence on being a regular starter.
Ahly are now believed to be willing to part ways with the 46-cap South Africa star, and according to Al Masry Al Youm, the record African champions already have a replacement in mind for him in the right-wing position, with the Club of the Century having identified Abdelrahman Magdi as their prime target for the role.
The 26-year-old currently plies his trade with Egyptian Premier League side Ismaily, and has been at the club for the past seven years. The same report states that he was on Ahly's radar as they wanted to bring him in last season, but Tau's brilliant form halted plans on a serious pursuit for his services.
