Serie A off to dull start
Italy's top division is back, but not with a bang! There were a staggering six draws out of the eight Serie A matches over Saturday and Sunday, with only two teams picking up victories – Hellas Verona and Lazio. All four games played on Saturday ended in draws, with last season's champions Inter Milan squandering a 2-1 lead over Genoa to drop points following a late equaliser from the home side.
Real Madrid struggle with dream trio
Ancelotti's side were held to a 1-1 draw away against Mallorca on Sunday night, a result that did not leave the Italian too pleased. The game followed Los Blancos' comfortable 2-0 victory over Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup final last week and featured the same starting XI, which included Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Kylian Mbappe in attack. The Frenchman struggled to make an impact in his LALIGA debut, though, as Real begin the new season trailing rivals Barcelona, who beat Valencia 2-1 on the road, on the table.
Sterling snubbed by Chelsea
With Conor Gallagher and Ben Chilwell seemingly being forced out at the Blues, new manager Enzo Maresca appears to have made it clear Sterling is not in his plans. The experienced winger was left out of his squad to take on Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, just under two weeks after the 29-year-old discussed his excitement for the campaign. His camp issued a statement on the news, revealing they have received no communication from Chelsea that Sterling is unwanted at the Blues.
Toney mulls over Saudi move
Brentford began the new season with a 2-1 win at home over Crystal Palace without captain Ivan Toney. The England international, 28, is reportedly considering his options amid interest from Saudi Arabia, this after he was linked with a bigger move in the Premier League! Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal had been linked with the striker, but it seems a switch to the Saudi Pro League, at this point, is more likely.

Alonso wins another trophy in last-minute comeback
Bayer Leverkusen collected another trophy on the weekend as they came back from behind to beat Stuttgart on penalties in the German Super Cup final. Patrik Schick scored late to send the game to a penalty shootout, which Xabi Alonso's side won 4-3. Leverkusen as a club have now won five pieces of silverware in their history, with three of them coming under the Spanish manager!
