The FA has confirmed that the reigning treble winners have been hit with a fine worth £120 000 (R2.8 million) for their players' conduct during the dying embers of their home league clash against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.
With the game reaching its conclusion, Erling Haaland received the ball close to the halfway line in the 94th minute before being fouled. Undeterred, the Norwegian still managed to play Jack Grealish in behind and it looked like the English winger was on the verge of facing Guglielmo Vicario in a one-on-one.
Referee Simon Hooper, however, decided to bring play to a halt and recalled the foul after initially playing advantage, something which incensed City players, leading to them surrounding the referee and angrily questioning his call.
Haaland was particularly displeased with the decision, and he even took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to vent his frustrations.
The FA has since deemed the Citizens' behaviour against Spurs unacceptable, though, and have decided to impose a fine on the Mancunians as a consequence.
They announced, as per the Manchester Evening News: "Manchester City have been fined £120 000 after their players surrounded a match official during the Premier League game vs Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, December 3.
"Manchester City admitted they failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper way during the 94th minute. An independent Regulatory Commission imposed this sanction following a hearing."
