According to FourFourTwo, the treble champions are weighing up a move for 18-year-old midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
The talented youngster made three senior appearances for the Red Devils in the 2022/23 campaign, but is yet to feature this term due to a serious injury he sustained in pre-season.
Mainoo is considered among the best young talents at the club at the moment, and was an unused substitute in United's past two Premier League matches.
City's reported interest will concern fans of the 20-time English champions who believe the player has a bright future at Old Trafford.
It is further claimed that the Citizens are committed to developing "potential superstars" and that United are struggling economically, which could tempt them to sell should a significant offer arrive.
