Mbule: Mokwena Makes Me Realise How Great I Am

Mbule: Mokwena Makes Me Realise How Great I Am

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sipho Mbule has described the feeling of finally winning the DStv Premiership trophy and credited his revival to head coach Rulani Mokwena for believing in him.

Mbule was signed from SuperSport United before the start of the 2022/23 season and had a lot to prove that he can fit into a Sundowns side that was brimming with accomplished players.

The 25-year old had a slow start to the season in terms of game time after not playing regularly the previous season at SuperSport but was eventually thrust into the Brazilians' team in the second round of the campaign and grabbed his opportunity with both hands, playing a role of a deep lying playmaker.

After Sundowns retained their DStv Premiership trophy, winning it for the sixth consecutive time, Mbule, who was initially linked to Kaizer Chiefs, says he's very happy to finally win the trophy he had always wanted.

"Finally, it's a trophy I've been waiting for. When you come to Sundowns, it's a team that is always competing for every trophy they play for and have been dominating the DStv Premiership," Mbule said on Marawa Sports Worldwide on Wednesday evening.

"The feeling is amazing. It's a feeling you can't even explain sometimes. Every time I get into my house, I see the medal, the feeling comes back," he said.

Mokwena showed faith in Mbule, who repaid him with outstanding performances, including in their CAF Champions League run to the semi-finals.

Mbule says that not a lot of people believed in him at that time and he thanked Mokwena for pushing him and keeping him on the right path.

"I know what happens, you don't find a lot of people who believed in me the way he does (Mokwena). Every time I do something wrong I know I'm going to get something from him (like), 'You could do better than this, why you're doing this and that'," he said.

"So, he pushes me every day and makes me realize how great I am. Sometimes you could not even see. Even me, sometimes I'm not aware of the things that I can do but with the work that he's doing, the corrections that he's doing, everything.

"He would just call you in the evening and say, 'Did you watch this game, this happened and that happened?' And it will be up to you if you listen to him or you take it on the other side but for me I've been listening to him and getting the advice I need from him," he added.
