Official: Valencia Takes Action After Vinicius Racism Row

LaLiga side Valencia have released a statement in which they have announced the punishment for the supporters who racially abused Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior this past weekend.

In the hours that followed Los Blancos' 1-0 loss to Valencia on Sunday in LaLiga, 22-year-old Vinicius took to social media to air his hurt and anger at the continued racist abuse he has received throughout the 2022/23 campaign.

The Brazilian was reportedly subjected to "monkey" chants at the Mestalla this past weekend before being sent off in the 97th minute after he seemed to hit out an opponent who had their arms around his neck. The Valencia player, Hugo Duro, went unpunished.

Finally speaking on what has been the biggest story in football this week, Valencia has said the identified supporters who discriminated against the Selecao winger, of which there have been three so far, will be banned from the club's stadium for life.

"Valencia CF confirms that in the last few hours the police have identified a total of three fans who made racist gestures at Vinicius Jr in the game last weekend against Real Madrid," the statement from Los Che read.

"Valencia CF is cooperating with the authorities in their investigation to eliminate racism at Camp de Mestalla.

"The Club reiterates its strongest condemnation and its emphatic position against racism and violence in all its forms and will act with the same forcefulness with all the people identified, applying its most severe measure: expelling them from the stadium for life.

"Valencia CF does not tolerate any type of racist attack. Racism has no place in our Club. We have demonstrated with concrete and consistent actions for years that we are a respectful club. In recent years, Valencia CF has led the fight against racism, demanding the need to establish protocols against this scourge on soccer fields. And, in 2019, a fan was banned from the stadium for life for making fascist gestures in an away game in the UEFA Europa League.

"The match against Real Madrid was broadcast live and it is totally false that the entire stadium uttered racist insults. There has been a lot of confusion and misinformation in recent days. Valencia CF wants to call for responsibility and rigor. This is a very sensitive topic and everyone needs to be factual and concrete with the facts. We cannot accept that Valencianism is labeled as a racist hobby. Is not true. We ask for respect.

"There is no place for racism in football or in society. Valencia CF strongly condemns racism."
