According to Mundo Deportivo, the football icon is now intent on leaving the Middle East only five months after joining Al Nassr.
At the beginning of 2023, the legendary goalscorer called time on his career in Europe and signed the biggest contract in football history when he inked a deal believed to worth €200 million (R4.1 billion) a season, but it seems the money may not be worth it for the Portuguese superstar, who is now said to wish to leave Riyadh.
It is claimed the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has become disillusioned with the reality of living in Saudi Arabia as well as its football infrastructure, and is exploring the possibility of making a return to Europe.
However, should the 38-year-old insist on leaving the Knights of Najd without just cause, the forward could be liable for some hefty punishments. For one, he will have to pay back all the money that has been given to him, as per Article 17 of Regulations on the FIFA Player Transfer Statute. The rule states: "In all cases, the party that terminates the contract undertakes to pay compensation."
In addition to being obligated to pay compensation for a termination of his contract, Ronaldo could also be banned from participating in any official football matches for four months. The regulations state that the sporting sanctions could be placed on a player who decides to terminate their contract within the deal's protected period.
