Official: Zamalek President Sentenced To Prison Time

The president of Egyptian giants Zamalek, Mortada Mansour, has been sentenced to prison time after he verbally attacked the chairman of Al Ahly.

The 70-year-old has officially been apprehended by authorities and will now spend one month behind bars, having been arrested for verbally attacking Red Devils chairman Mahmoud El Khatib.

El Khatib filed two cases of defamation against Mortada in 2021 after the Al Ahly executive claimed that his rival was misusing his parliamentary immunity. When the Zamalek chief lost the parliamentary elections in 2020, it meant that his immunity would cease mere months later and his 68-year-old counterpart took advantage of it.

The Club of the Century chief successfully won both lawsuits last year and while Mortada was originally handed a one-year sentence, the court lessened this to one month. The controversial president of the White Knights attempted to appeal the decision, but the court upheld its ruling and the Egyptian boss is now jail-bound.

"Finally, the president of the Al Ahly jailed the president of the Zamalek for the first time in the history of the sport," Mortada said on social media after the verdict was finalised, as per KingFut.

"The appeal has been refused, pending the decision of the heavenly judge Almighty God. Don't worry about me, lions are not afraid of death, and they are not afraid of being imprisoned either.

"The plan was to overthrow me in the elections by fraudulent means, before that I was secluded from the Zamalek presidency for four years, after which the board of directors was dissolved, and the fourth step was to send me to prison.

"This step got delayed, praise God. Egyptians and Zamalek fans now believe it. I had to completely disappear from the political, sports, and media scene at any cost."
