Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly once cornered Barcelona's former president at an awards ceremony to find out how much Lionel Messi was being paid before being told the Argentine was earning more than double his salary.
What Ronaldo Demanded From Agent Before 'Split'
A recent report claimed the Portuguese forward has split from his long-time representative Jorge Mendes over a fallout regarding the nature of his Manchester United departure and subsequent move to Al Nassr.
Cracks, however, were believed to appear in their relationship in 2018 already, when the five-time Ballon d'Or winner decided to swap Real Madrid for Juventus after an apparent contract dispute with the Spanish giants.
It was said at the time that Los Blancos refused to meet Ronaldo's wage demands during discussions over a new deal, leading to the legendary No. 7 announcing he would be moving on from Real following their 2017/18 UEFA Champions League final triumph over Liverpool.
According to El Mundo, Ronaldo's displeasure with what he was earning at the Santiago Bernabeu was made worse after he spoke to ex-Barcelona chief Josep Maria Bartomeu at an awards ceremony.
It was there that he was told Messi, his long-time rival, was being paid "more than double" his salary at the Blaugrana. Months later, Ronaldo joined Juve after agreeing to a deal worth £500 000 (R10 million) per week.
Mendes, though, wanted his client to stay at Los Blancos as he believed Ronaldo could continue to win major individual accolades at the European giants, such as the Ballon d'Or, which he has not won since leaving Real.
