New details of Cristiano Ronaldo's high-profile "split" from his long-time agent and father figure Jorge Mendes seem to have emerged, with the Al Nassr forward's demands reportedly being revealed.
Messi Makes Shock PSG U-Turn After Ronaldo Move?
Earlier this month, the 37-year-old completed a surprise free-agent switch to Middle Eastern giants Al Nassr, for whom he made his official debut this past weekend in a 1-0 win over Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League.
Speaking at his unveiling, Ronaldo explained that he had given Al Nassr his word before penning a world-record contract with the club, but was still criticised following remarks he had made to British broadcaster Piers Morgan just weeks earlier.
The Portuguese caused a stir when he insisted he had offers from multiple clubs around the world, particularly after he seemed to imply in his interview with Morgan that he would have already been in Saudi Arabia if his motivation was money.
Weeks on from his Manchester United departure, Ronaldo signed a deal that made him the highest-paid player in history, reportedly splitting from his agent Mendes in the weeks leading up to his surprise move.
It was said that Mendes had advised his client to not publicly lambast United as he chose to do in his interview with Morgan, this amid a time clubs such as Bayern Munich and Chelsea were believed to decide against signing Ronaldo.
Spanish outlet El Mundo claims the five-time Ballon d'Or winner issued Mendes with an ultimatum that threatened their personal and professional relationship, saying: "Either you get me Bayern or Chelsea, or we break up."
Manager Reacts To Ronaldo's Al Nassr Debut
The same report states that Mendes had lost influence over Ronaldo, using the super-agent's disapproval of his decision to swap Real Madrid for Juventus in 2018 as evidence to suggest the businessman's relationship with the player began to deteriorate.
