With Barcelona set to square off against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, Thomas Muller has revealed a joke Sadio Mane has told him involving his former teammate and Blaugrana striker Robert Lewandowski.
Report: Neymar Unhappy With Kylian Mbappe Antics
The two sides will take each other on at the Allianz Arena tonight, and both will be looking to maintain their 100% records so far in this season's UCL.
It will also be the first time the Pole returns to the home of the Bavarians following his exit in the latest transfer window.
According to Muller, Mane has jokingly told the German attacker not to make the mistake of passing to his former colleague Lewandowski in the match.
"Sadio has been joking, telling me not to make a mistake and pass the ball to Lewandowski during the game," Muller told Sport on Monday.
"We have to play our game tomorrow and not focus too much on Lewy."
Muller and Lewandowski enjoyed eight trophy-laden years together with the German outfit, winning eight Bundesliga crowns, three German Cups and the Champions League.
More often than not, the duo were involved in each other's goals as well – in the 332 matches they played together, they combined for 80 goals, as per Transfermarkt.
Speaking further about his relationship with the Pole, Muller said: "Our connection on the pitch grew over time. But now we have a lot of versatile players up front and we don't have a single reference. Opponents don't know who the regular striker is and we have to make it work."
Pogba's FIFA World Cup Fate Revealed?
Lewandowski left Die Roten in July and took his talents to Catalonia, where he continues to be a prolific marksman, having scored nine goals in six matches already this season.
Meanwhile, the man brought in to create his own Bayern history was the Senegalese, Mane. The former Liverpool star has scored five goals in his opening nine competitive appearances since his move from Anfield.
