Why Sundowns Are Pushing To Finalise Suarez's Contract

Why Sundowns Are Pushing To Finalise Suarez's Contract

Siya sources added that when Sundowns initially signed Suarez on loan, they were believed to have included a purchase option to assess his adaptation to the South African game first, which he has now achieved to their satisfaction.

"Actually when the scouts went there they wanted him signed permanently already but at that time there were changes in the technical department and they were not sure if the incoming coach (Miguel Cardoso) would like him and so the loan was the first option because of that. But since he arrived the current technical team is believed to be very happy and impressed with his contribution to the team both on and off the field and that's why it hasn't taken long before the club could make the decision to exercise the buying option," said the Siya source.

"So for now, they just have to wait for the end of the season to finalise everything because now he is on a loan contract," the source added.

A second insider stated that the Brazilians aim to secure Suarez's services permanently so that they can include him in their squad for the FIFA Club World Cup.

"The club wants to have a very strong team at the Club World Cup and by the time they will be going there, his contract would be approaching the end and it will expire during the tournament so to avoid complications they want to finalise the permanent deal before that and that's why they are apparently believed to be talking to his team in Argentina to sort out things before the end of the season and (the end of) his loan deal," the second insider stated.

The 29-year-old defender had also featured in the 1-0 loss against TS Galaxy on Tuesday, which was a rare loss for Sundowns, coming straight after their outstanding 4-1 beating of Orlando Pirates on the weekend.

Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.

When speaking to Sundowns media after the Galaxy match, Suarez noted how well he has been received by the South African club and discussed his target for the club.

"I come to contribute my grain of sand to be able to achieve everything that can be achieved with this team," said Suarez.
