Following Steven "Schillo" Pienaar's retirement, Supporters Club members have opened their book of football memories and shared some treasurable moments of the former Bafana Bafana captain.
Thobeka Masina, seemingly a big fan of the midfielder, shared with fellow supporters some of her greatest memories of Pienaar.
"Schillo was a good player. I remember my brother playing soccer in the dusty streets calling himself 'Schillo'. He had scored so many important goals for Everton. I think playing to save Sunderland from relegation killed part of his football. Then playing to save Wits from relegation also killed his football completely. However, he represented us very well as South Africa and it was always so nice to hear the English commentators say the ball is with 'Pienaar the South African'. You were not wearing the No. 10 jersey for nothing. I remember one time playing in Tunisia when Marc van Heerden scored that screamer from your assist, that's the same day Sibusiso Zuma asked to be substituted because the guys wanted to win and he saw he was exhausted. I remember whenever players were fighting, you were the first one to restore peace. Just like you did in 2008, when Katongo scored quick goals in the first half for Zambia and Benni took Mulenga like a punch bag because he was taking so long to get off the field after he was substituted. I have been your friend on Facebook. What a humble person you are. I hope you follow Benni's footsteps and get your coaching badge. Till we see you on TV and newspapers again… so long Schillo." – Thobeka Masina
