As reported by the Siya crew, a few Bloemfontein Celtic players went on strike last week and failed to show up at training, just a day before their Nedbank Cup encounter against Richards Bay FC.
It is understood that the reason for the strike is that the players are demanding outstanding signing-on fees owed to them by the Free State club. In their defence, the club's management referred to the players' actions as a misunderstanding caused by the various banks used by different players.
Although nothing has reflected in the players' bank accounts, it is also understood that they were given confirmation letters by the club stating that the outstanding monies had been paid.
Supporters Club members have reacted to the situation, with some believing this is unfair treatment that may negatively impact on the Siwelele's usually jubilant supporters.
"Celtic fans deserve better things from their team. Not this! This team needs somebody with football ambition and who is going to take over and treat the players like their brothers. That way, the players will give their all to the team to make all their fans happy. Max (Tshabalala, Celtic's owner) must just sell this team." – Myaka weliPhefeni
"This is not fair. Max, please treat your players as you would your family members. This is sad for Celtic supporters. If you are failing to run the team, then let someone take over, maan." – Ndabayakhe
"The management's action is taking players for granted. The crisis needs intervention from either the PSL or SAFA." – jakobe
"In 2018, there are still bosses who treat players like this? At PSL level? I expect this from Mvela (National First Division). Celtic have MTN. What do they do with that money? If players were really paid, then they would have got bank notifications on their cellphones, instead of being shown photocopied letters." – mbheduyajika
What impact do you think this will have on Celtic's supporters?
