Cape Town City head coach Benni McCarthy expressed his disappointment after his side lost on Baroka FC in their midweek fixture on Tuesday evening.
The loss to Bakgaga saw Benni's side suffer their fourth consecutive Absa Premiership defeat, and McCarthy stressed his frustration at his side's inability to score goals. In a post-match interview with SuperSport, Benni said his players missed chances even his grandmother could have scored.
A Supporters Club member with the username mbheduyajika has shared his views following Benni's comments, and he believes the Cape Town-born coach is not doing enough to protect his players.
"People fail to understand this. If you were a great footballer, that doesn't mean you will automatically become a great coach. It's that kind of mentality that sees Jomo Sono and his team in and out of the PSL. There are a lot of fundamentals that go in working with players. Getting the players to play for you, getting the ones that don't play to respect you and protecting your players when they lose. Benni does not protect his guys. Instead he exposes them, and for that he may not last long. Manner of approach and charisma is vital. He is good at the reserves and analysing football games. Is he reliable with coaching seasoned players? Not so sure." – mbheduyajika
