Former SuperSport United striker Katlego Mphela said that it will be very sad to see a club like SuperSport being relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma, 'Killer' said that SSU have a very rich history, having produced many top players, with the development structures producing players who went to play at Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
"Look at the players who came through the ranks of SuperSport United? How many are there? In recent years you have Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena, just to mention those two," the former footballer said, speaking to the Siya crew.
Things look grim for the Gauteng side, and Mphela this be a sad moment for South African football.
"Imagine how sad and painful it would be to see the team going down. But knowing SuperSport, that won't happen. They won't be relegated. That I know.
"Look there is no Jomo Cosmos, no Santos FC, no Manning Rangers, no Bidvest Wits and no African Wanderers. Then imagine no SuperSport United? That's why I am saying it would be sad to see SuperSport United relegated. But as I have said I know that team. They won't give up until the end and fight to stay up," Killer believes.
