High-ranking sources at the association have confirmed to the Siya crew that Steenbok has indeed parted ways with SAFA, bringing an end to his tenure that began in September 2022.
Steenbok’s exit marks the close of a significant chapter for the association.
During his time in the role, he played a central role in youth and women’s football development, spearheading several key initiatives including elite coaching programs and youth team restructuring.
His influence was felt across the game, from the Betway Premiership to grassroots levels.
SAFA is now understood to be actively seeking a suitable candidate to fill the critical position of technical director.
The process is expected to be thorough, as the association looks to continue building on the foundation laid by Steenbok.
The outgoing director is said to be turning his focus toward scouting and other personal football-related ventures.
