The story
Veteran coach, Gavin Hunt, has hailed Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfield general, Teboho Mokoena, as the best baller in the land, rating him above his in-form teammate, Lucas Ribeiro Costa.
Ribeiro is tipped by many to clinch one of the elite end-of-year accolades, with his remarkable return of 16 goals and 11 assists placing him in pole position for the PSL Player of the Season award.
Hunt was recently interviewed on SuperSport Unplugged, and when asked about his number one candidate for the award, he agreed that Ribeiro's numbers place him as a frontrunner but feels that Mokoena pips the Brazilian as the league’s best player.
"If you take Ribeiro and you put him at Magesi, I think he would struggle. But, you've got to go with Ribeiro [as player of the year], he's the number one that’s got the goals, but I think if you put him in a team where he has to work a little bit harder… I don't know," said Hunt.
"For me, the best player in South Africa is Teboho Mokoena," he added.
Hunt also named his former player, Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners, and seemingly tried to name Makhehlene Makhaula as potential candidates for the prize.

Despite Sundowns suffering a narrow defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals on Sunday, Mokoena still managed to rise to the occasion to deliver another "BMT" calibre performance.
He opened the scoring with a scorcher of a free-kick on the stroke of half-time, with supporters online waxing lyrical about the 28-year-old midfielder.
