Maritzburg, under returning coach Fadlu Davids, are in their best form of the season after they won their third game in a row by edging Golden Arrows 1-0 last weekend.
The Team of Choice have climbed up to 13th on the table with 20 points but they not out of the woods yet, just two points above the relegation zone.
Chippa, meanwhile, will be searching for their first win since October last year, as their 1-1 draw with Royal AM last weekend extended their winless run to seven matches.
The Chilli Boys are lying tenth on the table, just one point shy of eighth-placed AmaZulu and just three points above the drop zone.
Before Davids' arrival, Maritzburg had won only two matches and that included a 2-1 victory over Chippa in August last year.
