Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Rene Richards has shared his thoughts about the lack of interest in the Soweto Derby.
The much-anticipated fixture between the giants of South African football had the ability to unite fans.
But in recent years, the clash has lost its flair, and according to Rene Richards, supporters may feel they are no longer involved, due to the lack of fans in the stadium.
"It is more of the environment and current state of living. There's a lot of negative things going on in the world and football is the only thing that can bring positivity. So, if fans feels like they are not involved, it becomes hard to hype up the Soweto Derby," Richards told the Siya crew.

"Back in the day, even people who were not working, went to stadiums because they felt valued by both teams on and off the field, so I think the value of fans in the derby has been lost."
On the game, the former left winger expects a good encounter, stating it is the kind of fixture that can be tricky to predict.
"It is going to be an interesting and entertaining game, as both sides are starting to pick up their form, but without fans, it is always tricky," he added.
