DStv Premiership

Result: Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 Orlando Pirates

Date: 21 March 2021

Venue: FNB Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs ended their losing streak against Orlando Pirates after Samir Nurkovic's stunner secured a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Cardoso, Reeve Frosler, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Samir Nurkovic were all recalled to the Chiefs line-up while Pirates made only one alteration, with Siphesihle Ndlovu starting ahead of Fortune Makaringe as Siyabonga Mpontshane continued in goals.

Bernard Parker came close to giving Amakhosi a perfect start in the third minute with a threatening strike from outside the box that missed the top corner by a whisker.

Parker turned provide on 20 minutes to pick out Happy Mashiane, whose first-time shot sailed straight into the arms of Mpontshane, which proved to be the biggest opening of the half.

While Pirates were unable to carve out anything, Thulani Hlatshwayo denied Chiefs a clear chance just before the break, after intercepting a through ball by Parker that looked destined Nurkovic.

Hunt's troops had another bright start in the second stanza as Nurkovic finally broke the deadlock nine minutes from the break with a stunning overhead kick that looped over Mpontshane for his second goal of the season.

Makaringe had a big chance for Josef Zinnbauer's men in the 68th minute after a mistake at the back by Chiefs saw him go clear on goal inside the box but his low strike missed the bottom corner slightly wide.

Nurkovic should have buried the game for Amakhosi in the last 12 minutes after going clear on goal from Mashiane's through ball but he blasted his strike over the bar.

Pirates were vulnerable to counter-attacks in the closing minutes, sending numbers forward desperate for the equaliser but in the end Chiefs held on to claim a narrow win that took them up to ninth on the table while the Buccaneers' title chances were dented, stuck in fourth place.
