Orlando Pirates coach Fadlu Davids has made a bold claim about their archrivals Kaizer Chiefs' penalty record in the Soweto Derby.
The last installment of the derby was won by Amakhosi thanks to a last-minute Keagan Dolly penalty, which he duly converted after Khama Billiat was adjudged to have been fouled by Olisah Ndah in the box.
Now, ahead of the second derby of the season, Davids highlighted the number of penalties Chiefs have received in the fixture in recent times and according to statistics, Amakhosi's penalty record in the derby is in stark contrast to that of Pirates.
"You talk about the previous derbies and the penalties we conceded, that's not coincidence. You can go back to how many penalties Kaizer Chiefs have had in this derby. I hope we can really be clear in relation to penalty decisions tomorrow. Clear, structured decisions [that are] neutral on both sides," Davids told journalists ahead of this weekend's clash.
According to statistics, Chiefs have received at least one penalty when facing Pirates in the last four seasons across all competitions. Amakhosi have been awarded penalties in derbies during the 2021/22, 2020/21, 2019/20 and 2018/19 seasons, while the Bucs have been awared a solitary penalty kick for the same period.
Davids has called on the referees take command when it comes to making stern decisions in the mammoth encounter at the Orlando Stadium this Saturday.
"I hope the referees are clear and know these things, knowing that any contact in and around the box and Orlando Pirates concede another penalty. That we can be clear on and know what's coming, especially with the Kaizer Chiefs front three," he said.
