Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker, Pollen Ndlanya, has said that he is hoping today's Soweto Derby will be settled within 90 minutes.
Pirates' Starting XI For Soweto Derby Announced
Chiefs and Pirates lock horns in today's Carling Black Label Cup and Ndlanya, who played for both sides, has explained how winning an uncompetitive game will give the players a confidence boost.
"It's a Soweto Derby and we all like Soweto Derbies, but I guess in this Carling Black Label (Cup), it's probably just a preseason game where they are going to check out the players," he told Soccer Laduma. "All the players are going to want to showcase their skills, but both teams are going to want to win this game.
With four of the previous six Black Label Cups going all the way to penalty shootouts, Ndlanya went on to say that he would like to see one team win the game outright, for the sake of the supporters.
"The teams didn't do so well last season and are going to want to start the new one on a high note, because, in my experience, it's very important for you to win something from the beginning. It will boost their confidence, so both teams would love to win," he added. "Hopefully, for the supporters, it won't be won on penalty shootouts and the winning team will finish it off (in 90 minutes). You don't want a goalless draw or whatever and if one team wins, it's going to be fair on the supporters."
