A former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper believes Brandon Petersen is in the right form to start this weekend's Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.
Petersen has started every game for Amakhosi since domestic football returned in 2022, getting the nod ahead of Daniel Akpeyi, Bruce Bvuma and Itumeleng Khune. He has conceded just one goal in the three matches he has played this year, a big improvement from the four he let in when the Soweto giants were hammered by Royal AM at FNB Stadium during the first half of the season.
Head coach Stuart Baxter could start with the former Bidvest Wits and Ajax Cape Town star in the derby at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, which will be his first official Soweto Derby against the Buccaneers.
"I think Petersen can do well in this game. I don't think it will be difficult for him to play the derby because he's been around. He even played when Chiefs played Pirates in the Black Label Cup, so for him it will be good to keep on playing because he is doing well for the team at the moment. Even in the last game he kept a clean sheet, so that's motivating for him. He is improving week by week at Chiefs because he is getting game time," former Amakhosi shot-stopper Aubrey Mathibe told Soccer Laduma.
"When he is on top of his form, I think we will see much more from him because he is a top goalkeeper. I think he will play this weekend," he added.
